Oberhausen’s website includes an interactive street map that is displayed in a separate window. You can enlarge or reduce a map section in increments (‘+’ to zoom in or ‘-‘ to zoom out) or select a given display scale (100m, 1km, …). The “1. Karte”-button [first map] takes you back to the initial map.You can also enter a street name, a postal code or a quarter of the city. By doing so, you will see the map of a section of Oberhausen in 1km scale. This map should include a list of locations or establishments in the given area with address and an option to calculate the distance to a location and to zoom in on the respective location.

MAIN NAVIGATION
The website is divided into topical areas that can be reached by clicking the respective button under the banner. These areas are assigned specific colours to help you get your bearings.
SUB NAVIGATION
The menu bar on the left side of the every page offers you the convenience of implementing a search just by entering a term in the given field and clicking the “search” button or pressing ENTER.The sub navigation is structured hierarchically such that multiple pages are consolidated according to topics. Only the navigation points that belong to the relevant topic are displayed when loading a page so that you don’t have to sift through unrelated material.
RIGHT COLUMN
On the right side of the page, you will see additional details and further information pertaining to our Internet presence. In addition to that, a list of documents and forms that are available for downloading and external links are displayed here.
SEARCH TIPS
The search results are divided into four areas. The first area lists the results of a qualified search, which is based only on keywords that are entered as relevant. The pages found are displayed using a tree structure that corresponds to their position in the navigation. The second area shows any and all forms and documents pertaining to the desired topic. This area is followed by a list of “External links” relating to the search topic, in other words web pages that are not part of Oberhausen’s Internet presence. To complete the search, the results of the “full text search” are listed, indicating every page which contains the term you were looking for.
To keep the search function as convenient as possible, our system does not differentiate between capital and small letters. In this context, we have gone one step further to achieve a better match accuracy by implementing a search for parts of a word.
Note however that the list of results can get very long if you use short search terms, since the letter combination may also occur in other words that do not relate to your search.
Should your initial search generate a very long list of possible matches, you may refine the search by including additional words.
Since it is possible to generate a very large number of matches especially with the full text search, there is also a special search function for this area. By using quotation marks, you determine that the search function no longer looks for parts of a word but for the complete term.
